Maheshwari sarees originate from the historic town of Maheshwar, Madhya Pradesh, a royal weaving centre established under the patronage of Queen Ahilyabai Holkar in the 18th century. Maheshwari sarees often feature traditional motifs inspired by the architecture of the Maheshwar fort, or the beloved river Narmada.
